The Big Bang Boom Bloggers’ Meet-up and Tweeps’ Tweet-up is now history, and what an event it was! Bloggers and tweeps braved freezing weather and icy streets on Tuesday evening to attend the social mixer that we hosted at the Caveau Montpensier. A big thank-you goes out to Jeb, the owner, for providing space for us to meet, and to Priscila Pilon (Weekend in Paris) and Forest Collins (52 Martinis) for their invaluable advice and suggestions about how to organize this event.

The event was a great opportunity for people to come together, renew old acquaintances, and to make new ones! The following persons attended:

The big attraction for the evening—and probably the real reason why people showed up in spite of the freezing weather—was the chance to win a scale-model chocolate statue of Auguste Rodin’s La Danaïde made by chocolatier Jean-Charles Rochoux. Elizabeth correctly identified the statue from the intriguing image of its fesses (buttocks) that we posted on our Web site two weeks before the event. Congratulations, Elizabeth!

The giveaway was timed to promote the launch of our exciting new game called Guess the Fesses—it is an online quiz that tests your knowledge of sculptures that grace the Paris landscape. Designed to be fun, the correct answers are revealed immediately after each guess. At the end of the quiz, if you want to learn more about the sculptures, you can take our free virtual tour of Paris!

Peggy and Jeff, two French persons with American-sounding names, are passionate about Paris. They celebrated the second anniversary of their Web site (ParisParis.in) for Francophone bloggers last Wednesday night in grand style. One hundred eleven persons showed up for an evening of wine, great food, conversation, and music.

Big-bash Pot-Luck Tweet-up

Cook 'n with Class

Yetunde Oshodi and Eric Fraudeau’s big-bash pot-luck tweet-up at Eric’s Cook ’n with Class cooking school is now history, and what a bash it was! Participants brought lots of food, including Forrest Collins (52 Martinis), who made some terrific, savory, mushroom caps stuffed with blue cheese and bits of mushroom. Yetunde Oshodi (Feels Like Home in Paris) baked some great cupcakes. Marlys and Michael Schürmann (Paris Movie Walks) brought big red strawberries and luscious, ripe cherries. And after that, I was too busy moving from one delicious serving dish to another to observe what others brought.

Moody Dining Room

Eric’s school is a spacious place with two rooms, one with a large dining room table, a well-stocked wine display, and a large oven, counter space, and a sink. The other room has a serving table, counter space, an oven, and a sink.

When they organized the space for their school five years ago Eric and Yetunde engaged the services of an interior designer. He left a strong mark on the rooms, and they reflect a rather wild imagination, ranging from a spooky chandelier in the grey, moody dining room to a bright, cheery, kitchen-like ambiance in the other. Was this the work of a bipolar personality?

In any event, given the spaciousness of the well-equipped school, I could easily imagine how much fun the students who come here to take cooking lessons must have.

The Monster Bloggers’ Meet-up and Tweet-up Is Now History!

Bloggers and Tweeps

The for-the-first-time-in-all-of-human-history Monster Bloggers’ Meet-up and Tweet-up was held in Paris yesterday. A good time was had by all!

Convened at Chez Lili et Marcel, a café-restaurant located on the quai d’Austerlitz across the river from the Ministry of Finance, twelve Anglophone bloggers and tweeps came together to exchange stories and talk about this and that.

The following is a recap of some of the things that we discussed:

Robyn Blaber of A Canadian in Paris recounted the travails he endured to obtain a visitor’s visa from the French authorities so that he could move to Paris. With that agony behind him, his next challenge is to find an apartment to settle into. Lots of luck, Robyn!

Karin Bates-Snyder of An Alien Parisienne told the group that she began blogging about Paris to document her gluten-free life here and to get out and see more of the city.

Laura Collier of Context Travel stated that she came to Paris to study for a Master’s degree and talked of her interest in sustainable travel.

Jenny Sundel of Jesus Year Project told me that she decided to move to Paris in the 33rd year of her life. She doesn’t seem to have regretted this decision!

And we, Tom Reeves and Monique Y. Wells of Paris Insights and Entrée to Black Paris, talked about our “Paris Was a Woman” walk, which we will soon offer to the general public, and the soon-to-be-published abridged edition of our book Paris Insights – An Anthology.

Others in attendance were:

Sion Dayson: Paris Imperfect
Richard Nahem: Eye Prefer Paris
Ann-Marie Nolan: Like Home in Paris
Elinor Browne: Like Home in Paris
Joshua Smith: The Controversial Manual
Jenny Sundel: Jesus Year Project
Nikki Bailey: Yahoo Travel

Yetunde Oshodi of Feels Like Home in Paris has already reserved Sunday, June 19th as the date of a tweet-up to be held at the Cook’n with Class cooking school in Montmartre.

Big Bloggers’ Meet-up Yesterday

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

A lively bloggers’ meet-up was held yesterday evening at Living B’art, a restaurant in the 18th arrondissement.

Living B'art
(c) Discover Paris!

The event was organized by Andi Fisher of Misadventures with Andi and Erica Berman of Haven in Paris and HiP Paris, and attracted an interesting group of Anglophones who blog for the most part about their observations about and experiences in the City of Light. The two generous cheese platters that were served, compliments of Andi and Erica, permitted us to order wine by the glass. (The restaurant does not have a license that allows it to serve wine without food.)

One the bloggers, Andi, lives with her French husband Jany in Berkeley, California. Jany speculated that women are better at communicating then men, which might account for the fact that only one male blogger (me) could be counted among the fifteen or so female bloggers present.

By 7:30 p.m. the restaurant was filled with people happily chatting away.

I was able to get the names and Web addresses of a number of attendees before Monique and I had to leave for a dinner engagement. Here is the list:

Andi (mentioned above)
Erica (mentioned above)
Amy of C’est la me
Cynthia of Adventure Eating
Karin of An Alien Parisienne
Shannon of Je ne sais quoi
Maggie of Haven in Paris, HiP Paris, and Eat Boutique
Lily of Context Travel Paris
Kasia of Love in the City of Lights
Monique of Entrée to Black Paris
and Melissa of Prête-Moi Paris
