Our Featured Chefs and Restaurant Owners

We have been writing extensive monthly restaurant reviews for our Paris Insights newsletter since October 2006. One of the elements that makes our reviews unique, we think, is that we interview each chef and include his or her photograph in the review. Until recently, there has been no convenient way to post their photographs in one spot so that the world can see who these hard-working, talented people are. We are pleased to announce that, thanks to Pinterest, we can now draw back the curtain and present them on the world stage!

As always, access to our monthly restaurant review comes with an annual subscription to our newsletter.

And now, to celebrate the launching of our new Pinterest board we are offering, for a limited time, a $5.00 discount off the annual subscription rate of $30.00. That’s a savings of almost 17%! Enter code 57934 in the Promotional Code box of the “Subscribe to Our Newsletter” sign-up form to receive your discount.

Wow! It doesn’t get any better than this! Act now while this offer lasts!

One month after posting a review about Les 5 for our monthly newsletter, I returned yesterday to have lunch.

The 18€ three-course lunchtime menu featured velouté of mushroom, prawns with risotto, and three scoops of artisanal ice cream for dessert. The velouté was thick and savory and the prawns with risotto were spicy and flavorful. For the ice-cream dessert I had a wide choice of flavors. I selected caramel, Bulgarian yoghurt, and almond milk…so smooth, so dreamy!

The bill for the three-course menu, plus a glass of Chablis and an espresso came to 25.20€. A great price for such a delicious meal!

We like to think that we are the first to have discovered and reviewed the new restaurant Les 5 that recently opened on rue Mouffetard just across from Eglise Saint-Médard in the 5th arrondissement of Paris.

Operated by Alexandre Nguyen and David Tran, the establishment serves up delicious French cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian touches prepared by Chef Youssef Gastli. A stark-black façade, a hip and handsomely designed dining room, and congenial service will make this restaurant a favorite for locals and travelers alike who seek great food at moderate prices.

On the first of each month, we publish a restaurant review, which we call “Le Bon Goût,” for the readers of our Paris Insights newsletter. In it, we not only describe our dining experience, but also write about the chef or the proprietor, and illustrate the review with a photograph of him or her.

We have been reviewing restaurants for many years, and have met many chefs and proprietors who are passionate about the art of preparing great cuisine. By writing about them, we hope that we can communicate their passion to you, their customer.

In the September edition of Le Bon Goût we review La Truffière, a gourmet restaurant located steps away from place de la Contrescarpe in the 5th arrondissement.

Chef Jean-Christophe Rizet prepares delicious dishes there, drawing inspiration from Italian and Japanese cooking.

Located on avenue Jean-Jaurès, just across the street from the former site of the Villette slaughterhouse and meat market, Le Boeuf Couronné is a nostalgic reminder of what bourgeois Parisian dining must have been like in the late 19th century.

In this month’s Le Bon Goût we review Le Cotte-Rôti, an unusually decorated restaurant located in the 12th arrondissement. Owner and chef Nicolas Michel told us that he plans to remodel his bistrot this August, but, happily, he will continue to serve the same great cuisine when he reopens in September!
